Apple has opened pre-orders for the iPhone Duo, its new foldable smartphone featuring a large inner display, a 48MP dual-camera system, iOS 27 and AI-powered Siri.

Apple has started accepting pre-orders for the iPhone Duo, introducing a foldable iPhone designed to combine a compact smartphone with a larger screen for productivity, gaming and entertainment. Pre-orders opened on Friday, October 16, at 5 a.m. Pacific Time through Apple’s website and Apple Store app.

The new device features Apple’s largest iPhone display to date, a precision-engineered hinge, the A20 Pro chip and a dual-battery architecture. It also brings a redesigned iOS 27 experience and Siri AI, which uses Apple Intelligence to provide more contextual assistance.

Alongside the phone, Apple is offering new protective cases and a folio accessory designed specifically for the foldable form factor.

What Is the Apple iPhone Duo?

The iPhone Duo is Apple’s foldable smartphone, built around two displays that serve different purposes. When unfolded, its large inner screen provides additional room for apps, videos, games and multitasking. When folded, users can access a 5.4-inch outer display for everyday smartphone tasks.

Apple says the inner display is 50% larger than the screen on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The outer display provides 90% of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro while keeping the device compact enough to carry in a pocket.

The company has also focused on the hinge mechanism, which is engineered to provide a smooth folding experience. The phone is powered by the A20 Pro chip and uses a dual-battery design intended to deliver all-day battery life.

Key Features of the iPhone Duo

Foldable Display and Multitasking

The larger inner display is one of the main features of the iPhone Duo. Users can work with apps in Split View, switch between applications and make better use of the available screen space.

iOS 27 is designed to adapt to the phone’s changing shape. The interface can respond when the device is folded, turned sideways or switched between its inner and outer displays.

The phone also supports StandBy on either screen, allowing users to display widgets, a clock or photos without necessarily keeping the device connected to a charger.

A20 Pro Chip and Dual-Battery Design

Apple has equipped the iPhone Duo with its A20 Pro chip to handle demanding applications and everyday tasks. The company says its dual-battery architecture is designed to support all-day use.

Battery performance will be an important factor for a foldable device, particularly for users who spend extended periods watching videos, gaming or running multiple applications on the larger screen.

48MP Dual-Camera System

The iPhone Duo features two 48MP Fusion cameras on the rear.

The main camera supports zero-shutter-lag photography and an optical-quality 2x Telephoto option. The 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera is designed for wider shots and macro photography.

For selfies and video calls, the phone includes a Center Stage front camera that can capture photos and videos in different orientations without requiring users to rotate the device.

Apple has also placed a FaceTime camera beneath the inner display, allowing users to make video calls when the phone is unfolded or positioned on a surface.

Siri AI and Apple Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is another major part of Apple’s iPhone Duo announcement. The device introduces Siri AI, a new version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence.

According to Apple, Siri AI is designed to understand personal context, use broader world knowledge and respond to what is displayed on the screen. These capabilities could make it easier to find information and complete tasks without repeatedly switching between apps.

The larger inner display provides additional space to keep Siri open alongside another application. Apple also describes a Siri mode in the Camera app that can help users obtain information and take action based on what the camera sees.

Siri AI is rolling out in beta in English with iOS 27, according to the announcement. Its practical usefulness will depend on how well these features work in everyday situations.

Water and Dust Resistance

Apple says the iPhone Duo has an IP68 rating for splash, water and dust resistance. The device will be available in two colours: Star White and Night Sky.

iPhone Duo Pricing and Ways to Save

Apple is offering several payment and trade-in options to help customers purchase the new phone. The offers described in the announcement are primarily for the US market, and eligibility may depend on the selected payment plan, carrier and existing device.

The Apple Upgrade leasing programme, provided by Klarna, offers 12-month and 24-month options. The 24-month lease for the iPhone Duo starts at $57.99 per month, excluding taxes and trade-in credits.

Customers can also use Apple Trade In. Apple says eligible iPhone 13 and newer models can receive trade-in credits ranging from $175 to $885, depending on the device and its eligibility.

Carrier deals through AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon offer up to $1,200 in credit toward the iPhone Duo when trading in an iPhone 14 Pro Max or a higher eligible model, subject to the applicable offer terms.

In the US, eligible Apple Card customers can use Apple Card Monthly Installments with 0% APR and receive 3% Daily Cash when purchasing through Apple. Financing approval and programme conditions apply.

New Accessories for the iPhone Duo

Apple is also introducing two accessories designed for the foldable phone.

The iPhone Duo Folio comes in Navy Blue and Taupe. It includes an integrated kickstand that can support different viewing angles for reading, watching videos and making FaceTime calls.

The iPhone Duo Case is available in Sand and Navy Blue. Its two-part construction is designed to protect both sides of the device without adding unnecessary bulk.

Both accessories support MagSafe, Qi2 25W and Qi-certified chargers. Built-in magnets help align the accessories with the phone and support wireless charging.

AppleCare Protection and Apple One Offer

Customers purchasing the iPhone Duo can also choose eligible AppleCare plans for protection against accidental damage. Theft and loss coverage is available with selected plans in supported markets.

Apple says AppleCare One offers additional device coverage in markets where the service is available. In the US, AppleCare One Family can cover eligible Apple products across a Family Sharing group under the programme’s terms.

Apple is also offering three months of Apple One at no cost to new and qualified returning subscribers who purchase the iPhone Duo. The bundle combines eligible Apple services, including Apple TV, Apple Music and iCloud+ storage, depending on the selected plan.

How to Order the iPhone Duo

Customers can pre-order the iPhone Duo through Apple’s official website or the Apple Store app. Apple also offers personalised shopping assistance, financing guidance, trade-in support and data-transfer help through its retail specialists.

Buyers can configure their devices, select accessories and prepare eligible trade-ins before completing their orders. Home delivery and Apple Store pickup options are available where offered.

Customers should check Apple’s local website for availability, payment plans, trade-in values and delivery options in their region.

What the iPhone Duo Means for Foldable Smartphones

The iPhone Duo brings together a foldable display, Apple’s A-series performance hardware, a multi-camera system and AI-powered software in a single device. Its larger inner screen is aimed at people who want more room for work and entertainment without carrying a separate tablet.

The combination of a compact outer display and a larger unfolded screen could make the phone useful for multitasking, video calls and media consumption. However, the long-term experience will depend on factors such as durability, battery performance, software optimisation and the cost of ownership.

With the iPhone Duo, Apple is expanding its iPhone lineup into the foldable category while placing greater emphasis on AI-assisted features. How successfully the device meets users’ expectations will become clearer as customers begin using it in everyday situations.
